Bread, Water, and Light All Point to Jesus

Bread, Water, and Light All Point to Jesus

Have you realized that one of the reasons that God created bread is so that when Jesus Christ came into the world, He could use it as illustration of what it means to believe in Him?  The same is true of water and of light and of every good thing that God has made.  “All things were created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16).

And with regard to bread and water, we know that from John 6:35.  Jesus Himself said, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will NOT hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.”  So every honorable pleasure that we have in this created world is designed by God to give us a foretaste of heaven.  The pleasure of a warm piece of bread should cause us to hunger for Christ as the bread of life.  The satisfaction of a cold glass of water on a hot day should cause us to thirst for Jesus as the living water.  The wonder of light making all other natural beauties of this world visible should orient our focus to the Lord Jesus who is the light of the world.  So the question is this, do you think that bread, and water, and light, and every other created thing is just a functional means to an end, or are you allowing them to point you to Jesus so that you might be satisfied in Him?

Something to think about from the Proclamation point of view”.
