How to Cure a Troubled Heart

What would you be doing right now if you knew you would not only be killed tomorrow, but that you would also be tortured for an indefinite amount of time before dying? My guess is that you would be desperate to find your own place of peace, comfort, and stability in the midst of the storm. You might even call loved ones, gather friends and family together to be close to you, or seek the quiet solitude of a place of happy memories. But what you would not likely be doing is pouring out concern for the peace and joy and faith of others.

And yet, in John 14, that’s exactly what Jesus is doing. It’s the night before His crucifixion.  He knows that He’ll be tortured, mocked, and spit on before He dies on a cold wooden cross. And yet, He’s not consumed with self. Instead, He says to His disciples in John 14:27, “Let not your hearts be troubled. Neither let them be afraid. My peace I leave to you; My peace I give to you.” That's amazing!  Don’t you want that kind of peace, that kind of stability in your soul and joy in your heart, that in the throws of tragedy, you’d be able to offer comfort to others? There’s only one way to do it, and that's by faith in Christ, who gives you His peace.

Something to think about from the Proclamation point of view.
