Love or Obedience?

Which is more important, love or obedience? Is it more important to love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength or to walk in obedience to His commandments? Which is the greater priority? Well, the bible both tells us that they’re one and the same.

In John 14:21, Jesus says that “He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose [or reveal] Myself to him.” And then as we come to the close of the book of John, we see that reality played out with Simon Peter. Remember how Peter denies Jesus three times during his betrayal, arrest, and trial. But then how Jesus restores him after His death, burial, and resurrection saying three times, “Simon Peter, son of John, do you love Me?” And, of course, Peter says, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” And immediately after that restoration process, Jesus tells Peter how he will die in faithful obedience to his Savior and is graciously reminded to “Follow Me!” Do you see? The bible tells us that love and obedience are one and the same. By God’s grace, all of us will walk in loving obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Something to think about from the Proclamation point of view.
