More Than Conquerors

Have you ever seen a kid’s football game where one team comes out and starts warming up and getting ready for the game, and then their opponent comes out and immediately you can tell that they’re better than the first team in every way. They’re bigger. They’re faster. They’re stronger. And when you look back at the first team, you can tell right away that they’re in trouble. Now why is that? Because it’s obvious that they’re intimidated, they’re scared, and most importantly, they don’t believe that they have a chance to win.

In John chapters 15-16, we’re given a very similar picture. In fact, Jesus tells His disciples that the world is going to hate them because it hated Him first. He says, “If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you” (John 15:20) and “Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God” (John 16:2). So a pretty daunting, horrible, and intimidating outlook on the future. And yet, Jesus goes on to instruct them they are more than conquerors, not because they’re impressive, but because they are “in Him”. In John 16:33, He says, “I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” Do you see? When we put our faith in Jesus Christ, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Something to think about from the Proclamation point of view.
