Since our King Jesus obeyed the difficult Word of the Lord and stayed the kingdom course through exile, we who belong to Him must also stay the kingdom course and seek no other voice to direct us.

I. True King Obeys the Word of God

          A. Embraces his call into exile (1 Samuel 27:1-7)

                    1. By living among his enemies (1 Samuel 27:1-4)

                    2. By resisting assimilation (1 Samuel 27:5-7)

          B. Embraces his call to seek the promise (1 Samuel 27:8-28:2)

                    1. By conquering a portion of the land (1 Samuel 27:8-12)

                    2. By navigating a difficult dilemma (1 Samuel 27:1-2)

II. False King Seeks a Different Word from God

          A. Resists God’s Revealed Will (1 Samuel 28:3-14)

                    1. Chafing at God’s abandonment (1 Samuel 28:3-6)

                    2. Consulting a forbidden medium (1 Samuel 28:7-14)

          B. Receives God’s Reiterated Judgment (1 Samuel 28:15-25)

                    1. Condemnation from Samuel (1 Samuel 28:15-19)

                    2. Collapse of Saul (1 Samuel 28:20-25)
